This morning, we were running around and it was fairly normal. I noticed a few men over on the basketball court playing two on two. I haven't played ball in like two weeks, and it hurts. So, after giving Shea his fair ball chasing time, I brought him home and headed back to the school.
I walked up to the guys and asked to play. I can be a shy person, but for some reason, when it comes to basketball, I'm not. I like to play and will put shyness away to do so. The guys were reluctant, almost laughing at my request. But, I had been watching them and I knew they were the laughable ones, and they eventually caved and let me play. I turned their laughs into embarrassment. The only thing I actually felt bad about was that one of them had his son with him to witness the abuse.
Later in the evening I brought Shea back to the same field to play. There was a garage sale going on across the street, that seemed to bringing in a lot of customers. Being the observant person that I am, when we arrived, I noticed a man holding a baby, and a women talking on the sidewalk. I thought they looked a little stressed, but continued on my way with my happy dog.
Chasing Shea around the field, I suddenly heard the lady across the street yell, "FIRE, FIRE!" Naturally, I looked. Nothing, no sign of fire. I thought it was a joke. Then I began to get nervous when she screamed again, "FIRE, FIRE, SOMEONE HELP!" Okay, what the heck was going on? People from the garage sale were beginning to walk down the sidewalk. I still saw no fire. Then she did it, she screamed, "HELP, CALL THE POLICE." With that I saw some physical contact between the two. Mind you, there was a baby in the man's hands.
At this point, the garage sale patrons began to run toward the couple, cell phones whipped out dialing to the police. Shea kept fetching the ball. People got between the couple and separated them. Shea kept fetching. Five police cars strolled up. Shea kept fetching. After the police arrived and calmed things down, they were filing reports of whatever sort they needed, Shea was about to pass out from fetching so much. So rather than watch the remainder of the show, which the garage sale patrons decided to do, we headed home.
The local elementary school saw men embarrassed on the hoops court and a domestic violence dispute. With five cops on the scene, I am guessing there aren't too many riots over Lebron going on. Stay classy Cleveland!
